Exchange Hosting - Create A Room or Equipment Mailbox

This article will detail how create a room or equipment mailbox.


The label of a room or equipment mailbox allows different mailbox types to be created and appear differently in the control panel and global address list. The mailbox, no matter the type, will have the same functionality as another.


1. To create a room or equipment mailbox, follow the steps to Create A New Mailbox, but when arriving at step#6 as depicted in the image below, select the appropriate mailbox type other than user.



2. Resource mailboxes are disabled by default so that you cannot log into the mailbox.

Return to the settings tab and Enable the mailbox. Once the Mailbox is enabled, log into OWA as the user.

3. Once logged in, open the options menu in the upper right and click "See all Options..."

4. Under Settings, and Scheduling Options, check "Automatically process meeting requests and cancellations"

5. Click Save at the bottom, sign out, and disable the mailbox again.
