Summary
Outlook Safe Mode
Starting Outlook in safe allows potential problematic components of Outlook that may impede exchange connectivity to be disabled. To view the list of disabled components in Outlook 2010 perform the following sequence:
Examining this list of items allows the end user the ability to permanently disable problematic add-ins. Outlook safe mode may be exited at any time simply by closing Outlook, and reopening it normally. |
There are two methods for opening Outlook in safe mode, either by the command prompt, or by using a key combination. For simplicity, it is recommended to use the key combination however both with be presented for convenience. |
Key Combination Method
1. Locate the Outlook icon, either in one of two places, on the desktop, or in the Start Menu. For the start menu locatioon click Start (the windows globe in Vista&7) then All Programs, then Microsoft Office, and finally Outlook 2010. When the icon is located hold down the Ctrl key and double click on the icon to load Outlook |

2. Shortly after clicking the icon a prompt will appear confirming that Outlook should open in Safe Mode. Click Yes and Outlook willl proceed to open in Safe Mode. |

Outlook Safe Mode Switch Command
Windows 7 Step 1: Initiate the Run Command with one of two methods. Either use the key combination of the Windows key in conjunction with the R key, or open the Start Menu type (without quotes) "Run" in the Search Program or Files line and then click on the Run icon in the search results. |

Windows 7 Step 2: Once the run command dialog window has launched type in the following command (without quotes): "outlook.exe /safe"Ensure the command is entered correctly and either hit Enter or click OK. |
