Web Hosting - Configure A Domain Alias (Pointer Domain)

Active Web services, see Add Hosted Services.

This article will demonstrate how to configure a domain alias, or a pointer domain.

Adding a website pointer/domain alias can only be accomplished with a domain created as a Domain Alias. It is not possible to do so with a Domain, or sub-domain and thus the instructions detail creating a domain from scratch as a domain alias.

1. In a web browser navigate to the ITSolutionsNow services control panel:

2. From the center of the screen locate and click on Domains.

3. Click Add Domain.

4. For the domain type, click Domain Alias. A domain alias is also referred to as a pointer domain.

5. Now configure the details for the domain alias. Enter the following information:

  • www.: The domain name.
  • Point to existing web site: Points web requests to the domain name to the target domain.
  • Point to existing mail domain: Points mail request to the domain to the target mail domain.
  • Enable DNS: Only disable if DNS information is hosted with another provider.

Click on Add Domain, to create the domain name.

6. To verify the redirection has taken place navigate to the target website's (Account Home>Websites>Website Name) properties. The website that is redirected will appear as a Web Site Pointer.
