Remove The Authoritative Feature For A Domain

This article demonstrates how to remove the authoritative feature of a domain

The authoritative feature of a domain grants priority of email handling for a domain to the exchange server. With this in place mail transport servers look to the exchange mail clusters for intra-domain mail delivery only. To allow for alternate routing or a Split Domain configuration, it is necessary to remove this feature by deleting the domain. When removed mail transport servers will have the ability to deliver to the basic mail server, or an external source for intra-domain email.


1. In a web browser navigate to the GetCloudServices services control panel:



2. Click on Hosted Organizations.



3. Click on the organization name.



4. The organization home page will now be displayed. On the left side of the page the active services will be displayed, under the Organization's section click Domains.



5. After the Domains section loads locate the domain to be deleted. The domain should appear with a red, X, next to it. If it doesn't it is currently set as the default domain. Set any other domain as the default domain by clicking the radio button next to it then clicking the Set Default Domain button.



6. With the red, X, now appearing next to the domain click it, and confirm the deletion by clicking OK. With the domain now deleted, the exchange servers will no longer be the mail authority. If aliases for the deleted domain are needed at a later point in time, it will be necessary to add a new domain, and then delete it once again.
