Configure Outlook 2010 For Exchange 2013

Prerequisites

Active Exchange email services (see: Add Hosted Services), and a locally installed copy of Outlook 2010. Outlook 2010 is available for free on a per Exchange mailbox basis, you may obtain Outlook 2010 one of three ways:
  1. Reference the, "Welcome Letter," sent upon account creation to the account holder's email.
  2. Follow the instructions found in the support article on where to download Outlook.
  3. Email support@itsolutionsnow.com for a link
It is important to note that the professional version of Outlook 2010 is intended to be installed with Office Professional 2010. When installed in a desktop environment that contains a previous version, or different version type of Office some features will be disabled. Installed in conjunction with Office 2007, themes, templates, and auto correct won't be available, with a different version type of Office 2010 (for example Student), themes and templates won't work.

 

Summary

The Outlook 2010 software suite is the most effective medium for both accessing email, and maximizing the many features of Exchange 2010. This article will demonstrate how to configure Outlook 2010 with ITSolutionsNow's exchange servers.

 

 

Follow these initial steps to setup and create a new Outlook profile, once that is done select the appropriate section to finish the setup of Outlook 2010. Automatic setup will only work with a properly configured Autodiscover record. Please reference the support article, and test functionality of the record by pinging "autodiscover.mydomain.com".
 

1. First please verify that Outlook is not open or running (exit it now). Once this is confirmed, on a local computer navigate to the mail icon in the control panel. Click the Start/Windows Icon button, then click Control Panel, and finally double click the Mail icon.

If the Mail icon doesn't appear follow these steps:

In Windows XP, select Classic View on the left side of the control panel.

In Vista or Windows 7, on the top right of the screen switch the view to either Large Icons, or Small Icons.

2. A window will appear listing three buttons, E-mail Accounts..., Data Files..., Show Profiles..., click the Show Profiles button.

3. Active mail profiles will now be displayed. It is necessary to create a new Outlook profile for proper setup. Click the Add... button.

4. Pick a name for the new profile that will distinguish it from other Outlook profiles. The name is ultimately ambiguous, and will have no effect on the setup of an exchange account. After selecting the name click Ok.

Outlook 2010 Automatic Setup Instructions:

 

5.After the profile name is entered the Auto Account Setup screen will appear. Fill in the following information:

  1. Your Name: The user's name as it will appear in emails arriving in other's inboxes.
  2. E-mail Address: The primary email address of the user.
  3. Password: The password associated with the user account.

Click Next> to begin setup.

6.Setup will begin to seek out and pull down email configuration settings.

7. After a few moments a window will prompt for user credentials will appear. Enter the following:

  1. Email Address: The primary email address
  2. Password: The password associated with the account.

Once correct, click OK to continue.

8.The setup process will finish pulling down configuration information, and then display the below image. If for whatever reason, configuration fails after step 7, check the username by accessing webmail (http://webmail.myhostedservice.com), and again verifying a correct Autodiscover record. Should the setup still continue to fail attempt a manual setup before notifying our support desk support@itsolutionsnow.com

Outlook 2010 Manual Setup Instructions:

5. After the profile name is entered the Auto Account Setup screen will appear. Click the radio button option at the bottom entitled Manually configure server settings or additional server types.

6. Now select the service type, select the radio button for, Microsoft Exchange or compatible service.

7. The first page of the exchange server configuration will now be presented, enter the following in the two fields:

  • Server: <GUID>@cloud.local (this is unique for each mailbox)
  • Use Cached Exchange Mode: checked
  • User Name: Enter the user's full email address

Now click More Settings, do not click Next or Check Name.

Note: Outlook may show another dialogue box that is telling you the user name cannot be found. You can click OK or Cancel to this. The goal is to get to the dialogue box in Step 8, where you can configure the connection settings.

8. Click the Connection tab on the top of the window, and then click the check box next to Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP, and then the Exchange Proxy Settings... button.

9. The Exchange proxy settings window will now be displayed. It is imperative the settings are entered accurately. Incorrect settings will prevent Outlook from connecting, double and triple check the settings before finishing.

  • Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange: ex13.myhostedservice.com
  • Connect Using SSL only This box is checked.
  • Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name in their certificate: msstd:ex13.myhostedservice.com
  • On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP This box is checked.
  • On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP: This box is checked.
  • Proxy authentication settings: Select Basic Authentication.Once the settings have been entered accurately click OK.

10. Click Apply, then Okay, then click Next. When the Next button is clicked a window will appear asking for the Username, and Password. Enter the full user email address and the associated password. The prompt may appear a few times, but after three the server field, and username field should be underlined.

11. The following screen should now be displayed, this indicates the account setup was successful. Outlook may now be opened. Please note that the time required for Outlook to download the mailbox is inherent upon both the connection speed, and the size of the user mailbox.
